TRUTH, THE VICTOR

From the April 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Know thyself, and God will supply the wisdom and the occasion for a victory over evil," says Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, on page 571 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Because the Master knew himself, knew he was the Son of God, he could say to his disciples: "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

Victory is the overcoming of some kind of opposition, be it in sports, business, politics, or war. To infinite Truth, Life, and Love there is no rivalry, for there is no opposite; and peace is an everlasting condition of ever-present divine Love. Truth, Life, and Love know no contest or struggle. Love, being Principle, and All, as revealed in Christian Science, could not possibly know anything unlike its own nature, or outside the all-inclusive divine harmony. Christian Science reveals material concepts to be but the reversal of the ideas of Spirit, Love, and this fable is itself reversed by operative spiritual facts in divine Science.

What this world calls war, with its resultant death, will be, as the Apostle Paul put it, "swallowed up in victory" as we learn how to love and as we do love our neighbor as ourself. "Truth is always the victor," says Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 380). This is evidently so, because Truth, being infinite, knows no opposite, no opponent, no enemy.
