One marked characteristic of Christian Scientists is their consistent and continuing expression of gratitude. Because this gratitude is Love-inspired, it is not static, but is active and activating, demanding expression. As Christian Scientists respond to this urge of Love for expression in gratitude to God. and to their Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, through whose spiritual teaching they have found the promised Comforter, they are naturally led to get in line with and support Mrs. Eddy's demonstration of organized church activity by joining The Mother Church and one of its branches.
Many earnest students of Christian Science have been abundantly blessed and have experienced great spiritual growth as they have pondered and heeded the spiritual import of our Leader's wise counsel given in The Mother Church Manual (Art. VIII, Sect. 15), where she writes, "God requires our whole heart, and He supplies within the wide channels of The Mother Church dutiful and sufficient occupation for all its members." Even though this "dutiful and sufficient occupation" for some Scientists may consist of being more than doing, spiritual reward and a greater understanding of the works of the Master are assured for all who participate in Mrs. Eddy's demonstration of organized church activity. Alert and loyal practitioners find it helpful to point out to students who come to them for assistance the spiritual advantages which are associated with church membership.
