PEACE TERMS

From the January 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In contemplating the present world conflict and its concomitant events, all Christian people quite properly hold in prospect the time when war will cease. They yearn for that to prevail which is right and just for all mankind, a world-wide permanent peace to be enjoyed by the people of all nations.

To this end many governmental leaders are devoting time and thought to the formulation and establishment of a proper postwar permanent peace program. All of this is timely, necessary, and commendable. However, thousands of years ago the certain way for this glorious achievement was recommended in a few significant words by a worthy patriarch of Bible times. Job from his own trying experiences admonished us, "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee."

This very necessary acquaintance with God quite naturally includes an introduction to and acquaintanceship with the real man and universe of God's creating, and this is found in Christian Science to be a present possibility. It is attained by the understanding of the facts, that God is incorporeal, the one infinite divine Mind or intelligence, the only cause and creator; further, that the man of God's, Mind's, creating, the only real man, is the image and likeness of God, spiritual and perfect, an idea in Mind, always expressing Godlike qualities; that the only real universe is peopled with Mind's ideas, and that throughout this spiritual universe the God of peace reigns eternally supreme.
