For many months I had been praying to be lifted out of a serious problem. In early childhood I had witnessed the healing of my mother of an acute heart ailment, and because of this proof of God's power. I felt He would answer my prayer for help and healing. My fear was great, for, like the woman mentioned in the Bible, I "had suffered many things of many physicians" and was still "nothing bettered."
Having traveled from one physician to another, being told each time that the condition was malignant and that only time could tell the outcome, I became desperate. At this time I did not know that I could call on a Christian Science practitioner, who would lovingly help me to overcome this dread of a name so commonly used and much feared today. But "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I listened to the "still small voice" and was led to telephone to a loving relative, asking her to spend the week end with me so that I might learn something of Christian 'Science, which I felt would heal me. It was well into the small hours of the morning when the light began to dawn upon me that I must overcome this fear of a name, and that traits of character and disposition must be transformed and evangelized. This I had learned after many hours of questions and answers. The regenerative process had begun. The task was not easy, but it brought much of joy, for it proved to me again and again that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 494).
Through my consistent and persistent study of our Lesson-Sermons, a better understanding of my relationship to God was glimpsed, resulting in the gradual disappearance of the difficulty and the final restoration of health.
