It is more than forty-five years since I began the study of Christian Science, and during that time I have used no material remedies. I have had many healings and know that Christian Science heals what are called incurable diseases, as well as lesser ailments. I have had to put this Science to the test many times, but it has never failed us during all the years we have relied upon it for healing. Many times it seemed that loved ones were handed back to us.
In my early study of Christian Science we lived on a large ranch in west Texas. I subscribed to the Christian Science literature, bought the Christian Science Hymnal, "Christ and Christmas" by Mrs. Eddy, and other books by the same author. I learned to play the hymns, and found much joy from them. I taught the children to sing "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Poems by Mrs. Eddy, p. 14) and to say the prayer for children as given on page 400 of "Miscellaneous Writings."
The children were healed of everything that came up to be healed: colds, measles, scarlet fever, whooping cough. Once a heavy stagecoach ran over, one child's arm. We had no help for this except my own work in Christian Science. The wrist was broken, but it healed beautifully. Another daughter was healed of the results of a serious automobile accident. I called a practitioner for help, and while I was talking to her she said, "You know that never happened." This statement helped me in overcoming fear. We have learned to be patient and, as the Bible says, to "wait upon the Lord."
