MASTERING TODAY'S LESSONS

[Of Special Interest to Youth]

From the May 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One of the great lessons resulting from the war is obedience. Our young men and women in military service find it their first lesson in discipline. Citizens at home know that cheerful obedience to and compliance with the present necessary restrictions and regulations minimize their inconveniences.

Obedience is nothing new to students of Christian Science, who early learn that they must be obedient to God, divine Principle, if they would find their lives governed harmoniously. And they also know that they must be obedient to the rules laid down in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, successfully to demonstrate this Science.

Of special significance to youth today is the definite rule for living found on page 486 of Science and Health: "Earth's preparatory school must be improved to the utmost." Since Mrs. Eddy used terms familiar to her readers to express her meanings, we may think of this statement as applying, at least in part, to our educational institutions. Another sentence from the textbook (p. 195), "Academics of the right sort are requisite," makes it clear that Mrs. Eddy approved scholastic education. Therefore it is important for those who still have the chance to go to school to improve opportunities by studying industriously and by making the best use of their time.
