Testimonies of Healing

With sincere humility and deepest...

From the May 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With sincere humility and deepest gratitude to God I offer my testimony that bones can be perfectly set and quickly knit by mental surgery alone, through Christian Science treatment, which was proved in my experience. The proof is documented by X-ray photographs and a surgeon's letter, testifying to a perfect setting and knitting, also that I was in no pain at the time he saw me, less than twenty-four hours after the accident. I slipped on a wet tile floor, striking a porcelain tub with my full weight, and slid to the floor in a fainting condition. My wife, in the next room, heard the disturbance, and waited a moment, realizing the truth that we live secure in God's love. Then she investigated and found me unconscious. I quickly regained consciousness, and turning to God for the truth that heals, we maintained that man. as found in Christian Science, is unfallen and free.

By the next morning I realized that some ribs must have been broken. I then asked a practitioner for help. Once during that first day I sneezed violently, and for a moment suffered excruciating pain, but there was no further suffering. I am confident that at that moment the broken ribs were set. During the remainder of the day I was fearful of a repetition of the sharp pain, but there was none, for Christian Science treatment overcame the fear as well as the pain.

Within twenty-four hours after the accident, in order to conform to salary compensation requirements, which necessitate a doctor's investigation, I walked to a near-by surgeon's office. He took an X ray and in commenting on it, said, "This X ray shows that several years ago you had an accident in which you broke two ribs." He indicated the spot where I had struck when I fell the previous evening. "As you can see," he continued, "the setting is perfect. The fracture is completely knit. In your recent accident, you must have struck the same spot, but fortunately there was no breakage this time. In two or three days you can forget all about it." Actually, I had never broken any ribs prior to this accident, yet the X ray showed that there had been a fracture and complete and perfect knitting. This definitely proved that through mental surgery alone the healing had resulted in less than twenty-four hours.
