Testimonies of Healing

Everything that I am, everything that...

From the September 1944 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Everything that I am, everything that I have, I owe to Christian Science. I have a happy home and a constantly growing business. Membership in a branch church and church activity are integral parts of my existence, making it interesting and wholesome.

Eleven years ago I had reached a point where I knew not what to do, unless it was to jump off the pier. It was then that I asked a friend, whom I knew to be a student of Christian Science, if it would help me. He said, "Of course," and recommended that I take my problem to a practitioner. I was jobless, afraid to meet my friends on the street, and altogether a mental wreck. Two weeks after my first visit to the practitioner I was offered a good-salaried position by a man whom I had never considered as a possible source of employment. The job involved selling a high-priced commodity and required all the self-confidence which I could muster and which just three weeks before I thought I should never regain. But what I had learned about God and man from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and in the practitioner's office, was all that was necessary to give me the needed confidence, and it has never left me to this day.

Although my progress has been slow, I have moved steadily upward from that day to this. My constantly growing understanding of what God is and of man's relationship to Him, and an ever-increasing ability to make this understanding practical in my daily life, have combined to bring me proofs of God's abundant care and ever-present availability. The past eleven years have brought with them the precious experience of class instruction, with, the inspiring association meetings every year, the privilege of serving the Cause of Christian Science in branch church activity, and a growing appreciation of what Mrs. Eddy went through to give her discovery to mankind.
