Having enjoyed the benefits of Christian Science for more than thirty years, I wish to express my gratitude to God for the health, guidance, supply, and protection it has given me since childhood. Because Christian Science has met my every need whenever properly applied, I have gained courage and confidence in facing daily problems.
I am grateful to have been brought up in a Christian Science home and to have attended a Christian Science Sunday School from the time I was a small child. I remember with great joy many demonstrations made in childhood. One in particular stands out to me. My sister and I had been put to bed quite ill. My mother read and talked to us along scientific lines, and then when other duties demanded her attention she handed me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and told me to do my own work. I thought of an illustration given in my Sunday school class, in which man in God's image had been compared to a glass filled to the brim with pure water, thereby leaving no room for impurity to enter. I saw myself as the clear reflection of God, in which there was no place for error to enter, and I was healed immediately, so that I arose and dressed. Rejoicing, I told my mother that when my sister awakened I should tell her all about it and she would be healed. I did so, and she, too, recovered instantly.
I was healed of smallpox when I was about twelve, and suffered only one day and night with what seemed at the outset to be a severe case. A practitioner was called that day, and my mother and I prayed and read Science and Health almost constantly for the following three days. A physician to whom I had to apply for a permit to return to school expressed amazement at my complete recovery.
