The words of Christ Jesus (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," can be proved by all mankind. I am grateful that I turned to God, whose laws have been made understandable by the teachings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
For years I had a little interest in Christian Science, but it was not until about eight years ago, after I became very ill and had to go to a hospital, that I turned completely to it. Between September and February I had submitted to three operations. After the third one the doctor said I would not be able to be about the house or walk up the stairs for six months or perhaps a year.
One day a man came from the gas company to talk to us about a new furnace. He asked me how long I had been in bed, and I told him since the previous September. He noted that I had the Bible beside me and asked me my religion. I replied that I thought all religions were good, but that there was one in which I was interested, although I thought it too deep for me. He asked me what it was, and I said, "Christian Science." He said, "I am so glad you said that, because I am a Christian Scientist." He later brought me some copies of the Journal and Sentinel, and asked me to memorize "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468), which I did.
