HEARING AND SPEAKING GOD'S WORD

From the June 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The most persuasive man the world has ever known was Christ Jesus. The words of none other have exerted such a profound influence for good. He quieted fear, overcame lack, healed the sick, reformed the sinner, and raised the dead with the silent or spoken word. This was because he always spoke in the language of Spirit. Of himself he said (John 14:10), "The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." He proved that true speech is the voicing of truth.

To speak the Word it was necessary for the Master to listen for God's voice. His continual communion with the Father was a perfect demonstration that true hearing is spiritual perception, the expression of the all-knowing Mind, God.

Moses' obedience and responsiveness to God's commands enabled him to reverse the belief of slowness of tongue with a ringing example of true eloquence. Consecration and spiritual conviction enabled him to hear God's Word. True communication is always from God to man. In individual human experience right reasoning from a spiritual basis is often the method whereby we become more fully aware of this fact. "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord" (Isa. 1:18). This command still holds today.
