I am grateful for the many healings I have experienced through Christian Science treatment. I have been healed of a sprained ankle, an infected finger, acute pain, and severe headaches. I have also been healed of the belief that Christian Science was to be sought and used only when I encountered difficulties, and that its primary purpose was to heal me of physical ills. I learned that Christian Science is preventive as well as curative, and that its true purpose is to bring immortality to light.
I am grateful, too, for having learned soon after I began its study that it is a religion of love and authority, and that its authority is vested in the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the revered Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.
One day I visited a practitioner who, after talking to me for some time, asked, "How do you know whether or not what I am telling you about Christian Science is true?" I replied, "I just take it for granted that what you are saying is in accord with its teachings." The practitioner then pointed out that one could always check a statement purporting to be Christian Science by measuring it against the statements in the Bible and in Mrs. Eddy's writings. I then saw the importance of being familiar with and studying these textbooks.
