ONE SIDE TO EXISTENCE

From the June 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was Christ Jesus' great desire that men should know the overflowing fullness of divine Love in order that they might enjoy the plenteousness of Life. He said (John 10:10), "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." Knowing that a wrong concept of God had led to a wrong concept of life, he set about to teach men the true nature of God, who is Life, wholly good and without an opposite, knowing only His own infinite allness.

The unchanging integrity of divine being constitutes the whole of reality, and Jesus demonstrated the truth of his teachings by healing everything contrary to Life and Truth. In the light of his inescapable reasoning, his disciples became increasingly aware of their relationship to God, and were able to follow Jesus in the overcoming of discordant conditions. The holy purpose of Jesus and of all who have followed him has been to bring to humanity the glad tidings that God is ever-present Life; that He is "a God at hand" ready to meet every need, and that the entrance into heaven, or eternal life, is to be found by following his teachings and imitating his example.

Today Christian Science, in repeating Jesus' mighty works, is again reminding men that "passions, selfishness, false appetites, hatred, fear, all sensuality, yield to spirituality, and the superabundance of being is on the side of God, good," as Mary Baker Eddy tells us on page 201 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It likewise demands of its followers a practical knowledge of the divine laws of existence and a provable understanding of their utility. It reiterates Jesus' teachings.
