My first experience in Christian Science...

From the August 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My first experience in Christian Science occurred in 1925, when a member of my family was given no hope by physicians and specialists of ever being well or being able to return home. At that time, as a last resort, I was asked to give Christian Science a trial, which I did in good faith. I did my part as requested by the practitioner, and within two weeks after the first treatment this member of my family was home. From that day this loved one has enjoyed complete health and happiness.

We sometimes forget to appreciate and continue to be grateful for blessings received. I gave no further thought to Christian Science until 1934. At that time— during the so-called business depression— we were suffering from lack, and a friend recommended that I see a Christian Science practitioner. In the spirit of humility I went to the practitioner and, whereas I went into the office with what seemed to be the cares and responsibilities of the world on my shoulders, I came out light of step and with the load gone. My mental picture had completely changed, and as I was consistent with my study and actions the material picture changed. I noticed immediately that whereas I had been a heavy cigar smoker I no longer desired to smoke; the same thing applied to what little social drinking I had done. When I learned in 1934 what real sight is, as revealed in Christian Science, I took off glasses that I had used for seventeen years, and have not used them since. Lack of income was completely overcome when I realized what real substance is. We have had so many other healings of various kinds in our family that it would be difficult to enumerate them.

I know from experience that our business progress is in proportion to our reflection of Life, Truth, and Love; and that success based on such knowing is permanent. I know that as one subordinates a false concept of self all problems work out. Travel by air and rail across the continent and elsewhere has been accomplished recently with no difficulty. Protection and right contacts have been realized.
