The student of Christian Science entering a college or university has cause to be especially grateful in the knowledge that he has adequate equipment with which to solve all problems that may arise in this new and progressive experience. He knows that as a child of God he is at all times governed by a beneficent God, who will guide his every step and meet his every need. He has but to listen and obey.
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, defines God as follows (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 587): "The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence."
To understand even in a degree this definition of God gives the Christian Scientist assurance that he can rest in calm confidence that as he seeks and follows divine guidance his university experience will be joyous and profitable. For to understand God as Mind is to be at one with the source of all knowledge, to be intelligently and wisely guided. To know God as Love is to feel the comforting presence of an all-pervading, protective Principle, and to love as one would be loved. To be conscious of Life is to be active, diligent, and alert. To cognize Truth is to be pure and good; to be governed by Soul is to accept as true only the evidence of the spiritual senses, hence to be happy and free. This understanding of God and of man's spiritual oneness with Him bases the teachings of Christian Science. It denies material sense and precludes the admission of erroneous beliefs which would deprive, hinder, or pervert the progressive unfoldment of all that is good and useful in human experience.
