Great joy came to me when I first began the study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. For weeks the thought that "God is" sang itself over and over in my consciousness. For years I had despaired, had given up hope that there was any way out of misery, sorrow, or illness. Again and again I had prayed, "God, if You are, show me what is right to do and I'll do it." Then through our Leader's blessed revelation I learned that God indeed is; that there is a divine Principle which when followed in life brings health, freedom, and happiness.
My first physical healing was that of chronic constipation and stomach trouble. I wrote to a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help, saying that I would await word and would take no medicine. Three days later normal action took place —something I had thought impossible— and the healing has been permanent.
An instantaneous healing of tonsillitis, which also took place early in my study of Christian Science, was cause for much gratitude, and greatly strengthened my trust in the healing power of Truth. For some years previous to my healing, I had suffered periodically from this complaint. Each appearance of the trouble meant a week or two of inactivity. Finally I submitted to an operation and had my tonsils removed. But the sickness appeared just as regularly as before. At its first appearance after becoming interested in Science, I asked a Scientist to help me. I went to bed and fell asleep at once. In an hour I awakened entirely well. The trouble never returned.
