Many of those who accept the sacred revelation of Truth and follow its behests, as given by our inspired Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, gain comforting release from these words in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 256): "Love, the divine Principle, is the Father and Mother of the universe, including man."
Throughout the ages mortals have looked to the fatherhood of men for wisdom and power, for provision and security, for all that is stable and sterling in precept and example. But it is to the understanding heart of a mother, human and erring though it at times may seem to be, that they have turned midst sore perplexities for affection, consolation, and guidance.
However yearningly mankind reaches out for the guidance of parental affection, one sometimes finds this affection unconsciously tainted with selfish ambitions, false pride, fears, and dominating opinions. The human sense of motherhood, too frequently the victim of anxiety and false responsibility, finds its peace and joy fluctuating like the sunshine and shadows of the day. Depending upon the evidence of the material senses, one is apt to accept erroneous conditions as real and become saddened. Thought imbued with the truth of man's being as God's idea looks away from the evidence of the senses to the spiritual facts of being and is at peace.
