THE MISSION OF OUR PERIODICALS

From the October 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Who can define the mission of our periodicals so clearly and definitely as she under whose inspired wisdom they were founded—Mary Baker Eddy—our beloved Leader, the humble and intrepid follower of our Master, Christ Jesus?

On page 353 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," Mrs. Eddy says: "I have given the name to all the Christian Science periodicals. The first was The Christian Science Journal, designed to put on record the divine Science of Truth." What an exalted mission for our Journal!—"to put on record divine Science"! Also what a challenge to us as Christian Scientists that we so live as to be able to put this Science on record. "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life." So the record in our Journal must be of the things of eternal Life, spiritual Life and its verities.

Continuing she says, "The second I entitled Sentinel, intended to hold guard over Truth, Life, and Love." Here then is one of our periodicals constantly reminding us of our joyous duty—to hold guard over the precious treasures of Truth, Life, and Love in our own living that we be not robbed of them. How else can we contribute to the successful mission of the Sentinel that it may keep guard over these treasures for the world, and present them to the world in their true and priceless value?
