FROM THE DIRECTORS

From the April 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Lecture Information

For some years it has been the custom for members of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, after several years of service thereon, to reserve some time to be devoted particularly to the study and practice of Christian Science. In accordance with this procedure, the following will have such a period, beginning July 1, 1946:

Mr. Herbert W. Beck Mr. Harry C. Browne
Mrs. Anna E. Herzog

In addition to the above, Judge Samuel W. Greene, whose retirement for the purpose mentioned above was announced in the Christian Science Sentinel of March 18, 1944, has requested that he not be considered for re-election to the Board of Lectureship for the year 1946-1947, inasmuch as he was recalled to serve on that board during a part of the time which he had reserved for study and practice.

We regret to announce that Mrs. Margaret Matters and Mr. Paul A. Harsch have signified their desire to retire permanently from the Board of Lectureship at the end of the present lecture year, in order to devote their entire time to their work as teachers and practitioners of Christian Science. Their requests have been granted.

At the request of The Christian Science Board of Directors, Miss Violet Ker Seymer accepted appointment to the Board of Lectureship for special service in Europe during the year 1945–1946, and she will complete her service at the end of the present lecture year.

NOTICE

The reports called for at the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church include "general reports from the Field" (Church Manual, Art. XIII, Sect. 1). Many of the branches of The Mother Church, after the close of their church year, send to The Mother Church a report of their activities and special steps of progress, and these reports are carefully examined. As many of them are read at the Annual Meeting as the time allotted for that part of the program will permit.

In order that the reports sent in from the various churches and societies throughout the Field may be considered for possible use at the Annual Meeting to be held on June 3 this year, it would be helpful to have them in the office of The Christian Science Board of Directors at least by May 1.

A NEW EDITION OF SCIENCE AND HEALTH

The Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy, publishers of her writings, announce the publication of a new Special Cloth Edition of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.

Like the other editions of Science and Health, this new one has been designed for general use, but special care has been taken to make it convenient and helpful for those just becoming interested, or ready to become interested, in Christian Science—those who may purchase it themselves, or to whom Christian Scientists may give it.

On the flaps of the paper jacket, which is one of its distinctive features, there is. first, a brief statement about Science and Health itself and the benefits it has brought to its readers, and then a historical note about Mrs. Eddy and the development of the Christian Science movement. On the page facing the title page, the edition has a list of the titles of all of Mrs. Eddy's books.

The Special Cloth Edition is bound in black cloth with gold stamping. Its simple and attractive jacket is in garnet, gold, vermilion, and white, and it has embossed end papers and top staining of matching garnet.

The book, is priced at $3.50, United States currency. It is obtainable at Christian Science Reading Rooms, or will be sent postpaid to any address, on receipt of the price, by Alfred Pittman, Publishers' Agent, One, Norway Street, Boston 15, Massachusetts, U.S.A.

MEMBERSHIP NOTICE

Applications for membership in The Mother Church are acted upon by The Christian Science Board of Directors, twice each year, as provided for by the Manual of The Mother Church, Article XIII, Section 2.

The next date for the admission of applicants in The Mother Church is May 31, 1946. Applications must reach the Clerk on or before Monday, April 29, 1946.

A letter of acknowledgment is sent to each applicant whose application is received by the Clerk, but this letter does not signify that he has been admitted to membership. When his application has been duly acted upon by the Board of Directors, he is notified promptly by the Clerk of the action taken.

If an application has been forwarded and, within a reasonable length of time, the applicant has not received acknowledgment, he is invited to make inquiry of the Clerk before forwarding a second application. This procedure avoids possible duplication of applications. However, applications received during the month immediately preceding the date of the current admission to membership will not be acknowledged until after that admission.

Application blanks for membership in The Mother Church are obtainable at Christian Science Reading Rooms and from clerks of branch churches and societies. Applications may always be obtained from Miss Mary G. Ewing, Clerk, 107 Falmouth Street, Boston IS, Massachusetts.

TESTIMONIES

Convincing testimonies of Christian Science healing are welcome. Each testimony should be verified by three members of The Mother Church who know of the healing or can vouch for the integrity of the testifier. If the testifier is not acquainted with three members, his affidavit may be sufficient, but in this case he should, if possible, obtain verification from one or two members. The testifier himself should obtain the verifications and submit them with the testimony. Complete addresses of the testifier and his vouchers should always be furnished.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS

When a change of address is sent, the following points should always be included in the request: name; new address (including postal zone); old address; name of each periodical subscribed for. Unless all this information is given, prompt changes cannot be made.
