Every alert student of Christian Science has found that the daily prayerful study of the Lesson-Sermon provided for him in the Christian Science Quarterly is of utmost importance as an aid to proving man's heritage of harmonious Life and of Love's abundance.
In the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. Ill, Sect. 1) Mary Baker Eddy, referring to the Lesson-Sermon, says that the prosperity of Christian Science in a large measure depends on this Lesson. We should be grateful that the subjects of the Lesson-Sermons were chosen by our Leader. We should also be grateful that the opportunity for systematic study of these Lessons through our textbooks, the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, was provided by her. These Bible Lessons, as instituted by our Leader and prepared by the Bible Lesson Committee, are repeated twice during the year. When we consider that the Lesson-Sermons, although prepared far in advance, meet the need of the hour, we see that this can be done only through divine guidance. The source of inspiration is divine Mind, ever unfolding its ideas according to God's law. Therefore the daily study, accompanied by practical application, ensures the spiritual growth of the individual student and the prosperity of the movement. Each day's study, rightly pursued, brings spontaneity, inspiration, joy, and healing.
The Lesson-Sermon will always afford definite aid in the solution of any problem. Truly, with it we are never without a very present help in time of trouble. This is illustrated in the experience of one Christian Scientist who was confronted by the fear of influenza. She lived alone in an apartment and had no telephone. Since she could not leave her bed, she could not call a practitioner to help her. She was reluctant to ask anyone in the other apartments to call because none of them were friendly to Christian Science. Praying to God to show her the way, she saw clearly that the truths in the Lesson-Sermon, understood and applied, would meet her need.
