"IN ALL THY WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM"

From the March 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One frequently hears a Christian Scientist express gratitude for the spiritual understanding of some passage of Scripture which he has gained through his study of the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. Christian Science is continually unfolding the fuller and deeper spiritual meaning of the Bible to more and more earnest students, who are proving for themselves that our beloved textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, indeed unlocks the Scriptures.

Recently the writer was considering the sixth verse of the third chapter of Proverbs, "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Pondering these familiar lines, she turned to a dictionary and found that the definition of "acknowledge" reads in part, "To recognize as a fact . . .; to admit the . . . authority of; to own with gratitude." This led to a recognition of the fact that when related to God and His truths much more was contained in these few words than she had ever before realized. To recognize God as Truth, to admit God's authority in all one thinks, says, and does, to own or acknowledge God with gratitude, revealed a line of thought more far-reaching than had previously been associated with acknowledging God.

With this fuller meaning of "acknowledge," she further considered the verse. We are admonished to acknowledge Him. Mrs. Eddy gives seven synonyms for God: Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love. These are to be found in her definition of God on page 465 of Science and Health and elsewhere in her writings.
