The spiritual enlightenment one gains from his study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, can be put into practice immediately. If earnestly sought and honestly applied, this understanding will be found sufficient to meet the daily needs of the individual. This is the beauty of Christian Science. Spiritual understanding, even though small, will do much for mortals. All along our journey from sense to Soul we find that a little more spiritual understanding, gained day by day and faithfully applied, is all that is required to solve the problems at hand.
The student who keeps busily engaged in contemplating and using the spiritual ideas which he has grasped is not tempted by bewilderment and discouragement over spiritual facts which may not yet appear clear to him. Moreover, practice, or demonstration, is the simple method by which one continually gains more understanding from one's study. On the other hand, our thought becomes surfeited and stagnant when we fail to utilize our present understanding of divine Principle. These words of our Leader's indicate the right attitude for seekers of Truth (Unity of Good, p. 5): "Rather will they rejoice in the small understanding they have already gained of the wholeness of Deity, and work gradually and gently up toward the perfect thought divine."
Another mental state to avoid is thinking so much of what we call "our problem" —whether it be sickness, sin, sorrow, or lack—that we feel the weight of the burden rather than the buoyancy of Soul. No burdened sense can pull down the consciousness that is reflecting the spiritual inspiration of eternal Life. The perfection of being can never be altered. Let us, then, be sure that we hold to this fact. Steadfast contemplation of simple truths about God, man, and the universe resolves adamant difficulties, oftentimes instantaneously.
