WORLD SECURITY AND THE HAND OF GOD

From the March 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The world today looks with eager and expectant eyes towards the leaders of the United Nations, and the steps which they are taking towards establishing a working basis for the maintenance of world peace and security. In view of the tremendous import of this purpose, much human thought and effort is being put into the machinery for its accomplishment. The responsibility that lies upon the shoulders of the leaders and representatives of the nations involved seems colossal. Although the world looks to their meetings with high hopes, it still remains a grave question what can be achieved humanly to assure the world a lasting peace.

Christians in general agree, at least theoretically, that the destiny of the world is in God's care, and that His hand is ever present to guide worthy human efforts. But to demonstrate the truth of God's omnipotent government in the development of a viable world government will require not only much consecrated prayer on the part of all Christian civilization, but an understanding of God as the Principle of the universe. Alert Christian Scientists will be awake to watch, work, and pray that the Mind of Christ be reflected by all attending the United Nations assemblies; that the hand of God may be readily felt and seen by its leaders and representatives; that they may be led to hear and follow the wisdom and will of God in settling the grave questions pertaining to world peace and security.

As Christendom awakes to accept its responsibility of the hour, it will pray that the eyes of its servants may be opened to behold God's protecting and guiding hand. The active Christian Scientist is aware of the important part he can play in helping to shape world affairs. By lifting his thoughts to the realm of spiritual reality, he helps practically to weaken and nullify the arguments of speculation, superstition, suspicion, fear, and uncertainty. Every Christian Scientist, no matter how much of a beginner he may be, should arouse himself to work often for world security, knowing that the welfare of the world is in God's hands, and not in the hands of a few mortals whose thoughts may be swayed from truth.
