One who had lately been called to serve as First Reader of a large Christian Science church was asked if he was finding much to meet in his new activity. "Much?" he replied. "I should say there is much to meet. I meet divine Love every time I step out on the platform." Here is food for thought for those who superstitiously would erect in thought a bogey of penalties for public service in this holiest of causes.
Do not the Scriptures show that when divine Truth sent forth a messenger in olden time invariably there went with the commission the promise of heavenly sustaining, directing, and protecting? David's charge to his son Solomon might be taken to heart literally by all who are called upon to serve the Church of Christ, Scientist, in a position of trust and importance. He said (I Chron. 28:20), "Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord."
After all, just what is there to fear, for does not Christian Science teach the allness of God, good? Fear and ignorance are inseparable twins; the appearance of one bespeaks the presence of the other. Mankind is afraid only because it is ignorant of the omnipotence and omnipresence of Principle, Love, Mind, and mistakenly gives power to the opposite or absence of God, called evil.
