When sorely beset by an attack of influenza during the epidemic in 1919, I turned humbly to God for help. I could barely remember the Lord's Prayer—having prayed seldom since childhood—but I repeated the words silently to myself. God answered my prayer by leading me to open the Christian Science Hymnal. As I read one of the hymns, the trouble at once began to abate. Within an hour or so it had completely disappeared.
After this experience I became more ready to read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and to turn to this Science for help. During the years since, reasons for gratitude and loyalty to the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science have been made manifest continuously.
I have been healed of physical ailments on numerous occasions by Christian Science treatment. A skin disease gradually yielded to the healing work of a Christian Science practitioner. As my thinking became freer from error, my body became free of the skin blemish. Twice in recent years, severe attacks of intestinal illness were quickly overcome by Christian Science treatment. On the second occasion, when I asked a practitioner for further help, in one treatment painful hemorrhoids also disappeared never to return. I had been subject for years before this to recurring discomfort from this trouble, and had accepted the suggestion of hereditary disease. Freedom from fear has come to me whenever I have turned humbly and prayerfully to God. I have been helped and guided in earning a livelihood, in homemaking and in fulfilling the duties of parenthood, in travel, recreation, and fellowship.
