Testimonies of Healing

For many years I have been blessed by...

From the May 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For many years I have been blessed by reading the testimonies in the periodicals, and I feel that the time is now at hand to express my own gratitude for Christian Science and what it has done to transform my human experience. As a child I had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School for a short period, and the truth sown in the childlike thought, though dormant for many years, at last bore fruit.

During the intervening years, however, I went through the deep waters of reliance on materia medica, psychology, hygiene, scholastic theology, and personality. After several years in the business world, bowed by ill-health and extreme dissatisfaction with life in general, I commenced to make a vigorous search for the truth of all things. I read many books on philosophy, psychology, and religion, but the material search proved fruitless. However, my mental strivings were not to be in vain, for on Easter morning, 1935, I awakened light-hearted, gay, and uplifted. My one thought was to attend the Christian Science church in our city with the one member of my family who had stood for Truth throughout the years. The solo stirred my waking thought with the majestic words, "Fear thou not, for Christ is risen." In that moment, agnosticism was healed and my life became brighter.

Two months later I was healed, in my first visit with a practitioner, of the effects of a horseback riding accident which had occurred many years before. The organ misplaced as a result of the fall moved back into place instantly, and I was saved from a major operation which, after I had had ten years of suffering and medical experimentation, was said by the doctor to be necessary. In that blissful moment of realization that the healing Christ is present today to heal us and bind up our wounds, my thinking was literally remade. All I wanted was to be able to live so as to render to God something in return for His wonderful help to me.
