It is with a deep sense of appreciation that I testify to the healing efficacy of Christian Science. However, physical healings are but a small part of the countless blessings received through the study and application of this Science. Fear, intolerance, envy, jealousy, hate, and many other unpleasant human traits have to a considerable extent been eliminated.
I did not come into Science for a physical healing, but with a desire to know more about God, and after my first visit to a Christian Science church I was fully convinced that I had found the answer. I began immediately to study the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and subscribed to the literature, for I saw that one must be obedient in order to demonstrate the truth. It is related in Matthew 6:33 that Christ Jesus said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." I had really been seeking God, but not until I took up the study of Christian Science did I find Him. The many healings I have experienced in Christian Science indicate the fulfillment of Jesus' promise.
Before coming into Christian Science I used to have severe headaches due to eyestrain caused by astigmatism. It did not occur to me to ask for help for this condition; but I became so absorbed in following the Master's admonition, to "seek . . . first the kingdom of God," that not many months had passed before glasses were completely forgotten. The healing was permanent. Since then I have served in the armed forces, and the physical examination was passed without question. On one occasion while in service I was given every type of eye test. All during these tests I kept repeating from Science and Health Mrs. Eddy's definition of "eyes" (p. 586): "Spiritual discernment, —not material but mental." I knew that the only test I could really experience was that of my trust in God, and that I did not need to fear mortal mind's diagnosis. No defects were found.
