Testimonies of Healing

The guiding, guarding, and healing influence...

From the May 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The guiding, guarding, and healing influence of Christian Science has flowed through my life since birth, and it is difficult to choose from all the good that has been mine those healings and experiences that might be most helpful to others. Blessed with a mother who used Christian Science constantly in her daily life, I early learned that a knowledge of it does heal, protect, and supply all good. Thus from early childhood reliance on God and complete confidence in Him were a matter of course. My mother used Christian Science with a buoyant confidence based on the clear understanding that it held the answer to every human problem. With it she demonstrated the abundance of God's supply, discredited the infirmities of old age, healed disease, overcame almost unbelievable difficulties.

At one time in our family experience we moved to a distant town in order that my brother might complete his education. We arrived as complete strangers, with very little money and few material possessions. Relying entirely on Science, my mother had a home, a house full of furniture, and an income, all within a month after arrival. During this period there was no frantic material planning or searching, but there was incessant work in Science.

Years later, after family responsibilities had been completed, my mother decided she would take some specialized training in a field in which she had long been interested. In so doing she completely ignored her age, following Mrs. Eddy's admonition (Science and Health, p. 246), "Let us then shape our views of existence into loveliness, freshness, and continuity, rather than into age and blight." The work seemed exceedingly difficult, and her young fellow students were at first unfriendly. By complete and continuous reliance on God to guide her one step at a time, she finished her course with honors—and with a host of student friends. Further work in Science led to the purchase of a business calling for the training which she had just received. Then followed many years of happy, fruitful work.
