Having been the beneficiary for a number of years of the truth as taught in Christian Science, I feel that the time has come when I should express my gratitude.
When I opened the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was searching for something that would bring peace and satisfaction. During my childhood I had had a great love for the Bible, but I could not find what I longed for. With the reading of the Preface to Science and Health and its remarkable first chapter entitled "Prayer," I knew that my search had been rewarded. A portion of the Scripture quoted on page 1 of this chapter contained the illumination that I needed: "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." With this awakening came healing of the need of glasses, which I had worn since I had started in school. My sister had been healed of the same condition three weeks before during a lecture on Christian Science. This beautiful healing had caused me to ponder on the great love of God, and I knew that His love was impartial.
For some time after this healing I was able to devote hours to the reading of the textbook and other writings of our beloved Leader. Then employment came in the form of managing a large apartment house. The work was new, but each day unfolded wisdom and strength to carry on. We established the truth about home in our thinking, and knew that nothing could enter to disturb or annoy anyone on these premises or bring discomfort or inharmony to us. We had glorious proofs of the operation of Truth in protection from accidents, fire, vermin, flood water, earthquake, and theft. In the conduct of the house we had a good record of collections, length of occupancy, and satisfying domestic help. These are but a few of the proofs we had that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494).
