About thirty years ago I was sent to hospital as an emergency case, and an operation was performed by an eminent specialist. After two months of intense pain and weakness I was sent to the men dip Hills to recuperate. I was advised to live very quietly, to spend much time in the open air, and to avoid all strenuous exercise. I obeyed these instructions for three years. Although I became a little stronger I was seldom free from pain and frequently had to spend several days in bed. Later I consulted another doctor, who advised a second operation and prescribed a drug to enable me to sleep. Remembering the pain I had experienced in the hospital, I dreaded the prospect of returning there and delayed for a month making the necessary arrangements.
At this time I heard of Christian Science and saw a small child healed of an unsightly skin trouble in ten days. Knowing my great need, the parents of the child invited me to stay with them for a few days and entreated me to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. That evening I read the chapter on Prayer and went to bed thinking of the statements I had read, but with very little hope that they could do much for me. I slept peacefully all night without taking the drug I had considered a necessity.
I then commenced to study Christian Science and in three months I was completely well, to the surprise of the people who lived in the village and the doctor who had advised the operation. Later, at the request of the company with which I was arranging an endowment insurance policy, I asked this doctor to examine me. After a very thorough examination he declared me to be in perfect health and asked how this had come about. He was very much interested in my explanation and advised me to continue to study, as nothing he could have prescribed would have brought about the same result. Christian Science has been my only physician since that time. It has given me a happy home and a more spiritual sense of joy and right companionship. It has taught me of a loving Father-Mother God, who protects and guides His children and provides abundant supply for all. I can say with deep gratitude (Ps. 16:6), "The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage."
