THE PLUMB LINE OF TRUTH

From the September 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The plumb line, or plummet, is a weighted line used by the builder to determine verticality—uprightness. That which is out of plumb is out of true.

The world is full of plans for building and rebuilding for peacetime needs. Nations in conference also endeavor to design a structure to keep the peace. The builders in stone and brick set about their building confident that the plumb line will keep their structures straight and true. The builders of the nations' peace structure should certainly set about their building with similar confidence in the plumb line of truth, so that their structure will have a sure and permanent basis.

What is the plumb line of truth? The answer is contained in a sentence from page 259 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where Mary Baker Eddy writes, "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,— perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration."
