Many young people today need the comfort and joy which Christian Science brings through the truth it reveals of divine motherhood. Some of these young people are faced with war's bereavements and dislocations. Others are given only regrettably materialistic examples in the home. Blessed are those who have experienced the tender love of a wise, God-loving mother, but even they must ultimately turn from the human to the divine concept of motherhood.
This expansive and liberating definition of "Mother" is given us by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in the Glossary of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 592): "God; divine and eternal Principle; Life, Truth, and Love." Thus it is clear that our real Mother is God, divine and eternal, not human and temporal; infallible Principle, not variable personality.
When the divine idea of Mother is joyously pondered, accepted, and relied upon, peace and security unfold. As this verity is realized, thought is progressively freed from the seeming limitations of the human, temporal mother-child relationship, hereditary falsities are annulled, scars of unwise training are erased, and loneliness is healed. The divine idea of Mother gives us a pure ideal, an abiding home for the affections, a tender, unbreakable relationship, which becomes clearer and dearer as we yield in childlike obedience to the all wise behests of divine Love.
