"Follow the directions of God as simplified in Christian Science, and though it be through deserts He will direct you into the paths of peace," our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, admonishes in her priceless book, "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 361). Surely this God-inspired woman has given us a spiritual command, which if carried out brings infinite blessings.
The truths about God, man, and the universe as revealed in Science have continuously sustained and maintained me. I had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School from childhood. When I was about two years old, I had an acute case of catarrh of the head and throat and at times was unconscious. With the help of a Christian Science practitioner I was healed. During childhood I was also healed of whooping cough, typhoid fever, and measles.
The truths of Christian Science sustained me in my Army service of over three years, including nearly sixteen months overseas. I am grateful for the fact that after I had been overseas for some time I was appointed a volunteer Wartime Worker by the Camp Welfare Activities of The Mother Church. It was a wonderful privilege to serve in this capacity up to the time of my discharge in April, 1946.
