In these times of unrest I turn for comfort to the first chapter of the book of Joshua and remind myself that I must "be strong and of a good courage" and accept God's promise that "the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest" (Josh. 1:9). These words from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 494) have also helped me very much: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."
In my business, error frequently tries to say we cannot find this or that needful material; but I find that as I "look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen" (II Cor. 4: 18) and realize that there is only one Mind and that this Mind is here and now giving us all we need of right ideas, my supply is obtained. In fact, I can truly say that in all the years I have been in business I have never lacked anything I really needed. I am grateful for this, and also for the spiritual understanding I am gaining each day as I strive to be obedient to the law of God, study the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, and grow in love toward my fellow man.
I should like to relate an experience I had when I first started in business. It was at the time of the so-called depression, and I found myself accepting as real some of the erroneous thoughts prevalent in regard to business—no money to pay bills, lack of material gain, limitation on every side. Finally I reached the decision to borrow money from friends with whom I had dinner every Sunday. After dinner I broached the subject. This dear friend, who is not a student of Christian Science, said to me: "Of course, you must have money. You cannot get along without principal!" That word principal awakened me. "Principle," I said, "that is it! I have back of me the best Principle that anyone could have. God, the only Principle!" I then thanked my friends and said: "I shall not need the money after all. That word Principle has awakened me to realize the abundance of my supply and what Christian Science is doing for me."
