I first knew of Christian Science when I witnessed an instantaneous healing which my mother had. Although she acknowledged the healing, she did not take up this wonderful Science. I shall always be grateful for this introduction to Science, because at the time I knew very little of any religion. I can remember telling the friend to whom I had taken my mother that I could not understand the Bible. When she explained to me how the Bible is studied in Christian Science, I was ready to accept this religion.
One of the first healings I should like to mention was that of hay fever with asthma. This condition had troubled me for many years. The healing came about just through my reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. No help was sought from a practitioner. I was grateful for this wonderful demonstration of Truth. I also wish to mention that along with this healing came a great sense of wanting to be good and pure. We were used to having much company who liked to smoke and drink, and I was anxious to be rid of these errors myself and to have nothing but good in our home. Work was taken up by the same dear friend, and we soon were led to move, and the friends stopped calling on us. I was grateful for the guidance of Love during those trying years.
Over seven years ago my husband went into business with a partner. Things did not work out as the man had led us to believe they would. At the end of three years we were without home, furniture, or car. All our material possessions were swept away. At this time I had a great deal of hate in my heart for the one who had influenced my husband by his false pictures of the business. A great fear came over me, and at the same time a disturbing condition appeared on my body. For over a year this condition bothered me, but Love still was guiding us. My brother wrote and asked us to come to California, saying that my husband could have a position where he was working.
