THE INFALLIBILITY OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

From the January 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

SOME people, who concede the healing power of Christian Science but fail to acknowledge its divine origin, regard it as no more authoritative or dependable than material medicine and declare that it may be good for some people, but not good for all: that it heals some cases, but also has its failures. Those who entertain this concept do not understand that Christian Science is the law of God and therefore in reality can never fail. In her book entitled "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 1) Mary Baker Eddy answers the question, "How would you define Christian Science?" She states, "As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony."

One learns in Christian Science that God is infinite Mind; that this Mind is the divine Principle of man and the universe; that all true existence is the spiritual manifestation of infinite Mind; and that harmony, therefore, is universal, all-pervading. To so-called material sense, or mortal mind, this is not apparent. However, Christian Science reverses material sense testimony, proves its falsity, and demonstrates through spiritual sense the allness of God and the unreality of all that does not conform to His infallible law of good.

Humanly speaking, a student of Christian Science may err in his endeavor to demonstrate this law, but the law itself, or Christian Science, is inerrant, infallible. To ensure success the thought of the student must be humble, honest, selfless, pure, and imbued with love for God and man—must yield to "the law of good." Whoever fails in his endeavor to demonstrate spiritual law may readily see wherein lies his lack of success by turning to Mrs. Eddy's principal work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." On page 149 is found this enlightening statement: "The rule and its perfection of operation never vary in Science. If you fail to succeed in any case, it is because you have not demonstrated the life of Christ, Truth, more in your own life, —because you have not obeyed the rule and proved the Principle of divine Science."
