I wish to express gratitude for all the blessings that have come to me through God's loving care when I have been obedient to the rules laid down for us in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
Christian Science was first heard of in our home when my mother was suffering from ulcers and had been given up by physicians. She turned to Christian Science for help and was immediately and permanently healed. I was too young at that time to realize the glorious truth that had come into our home, and as we moved away shortly to communities where there were no Scientists, I never studied Science seriously until many years later.
In a trunk that I was unpacking I found a copy of Science and Health. I started to read, and the first words that stood out to me were in a quotation from the Bible (pp. 14, 15), "When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and, when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly." I had yet to learn the nature of the true "spiritual sanctuary" (marginal heading, ibid., p. 15), but for that day I stayed in my room with my door shut, trying to be obedient. I could not begin to tell of all the blessings that came to me from that small beginning, but immediately my life began to be more harmonious. The way has not been easy, and there are many problems yet to be worked out, but from that day the problem of lack began to diminish in my experience, and the next day I secured a position where I could work and go to school.
