Testimonies of Healing

After depending on Christian Science...

From the December 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

After depending on Christian Science to meet our needs, we would find it impossible to get along without it. I have applied it to almost every type of problem, and it has never failed. Some years ago I expressed gratitude in a testimony published in the Christian Science Sentinel. Since that time I have learned to value in greater measure what Mary Baker Eddy has revealed to us.

The healing of a broken hip is one of the many things I have to be grateful for. An X ray was made because of the circumstances, and the practitioner advised having the hip set, but no cast was used. In ten days I was able to carry on my work and keep appointments at home. In two months I walked to church and up many steps, using a cane, which was soon discarded. I knew that no fall or fear of falling can keep anyone from knowing the truth. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 269), "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul." Breakage is indicative of separation, so work was done to realize that error cannot separate God and His idea. No sense of pain was given power or place, and the realization was held to firmly that there was nothing to wait for, since man always reflects Mind's activity, freedom, and perfection. No sense of limitation was accepted. For all the help I had at this time and for the many lessons learned, I am truly grateful.

At the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, some of my family were at Hickam Field, Honolulu. For nearly a week it was not possible to receive any word from them. While claiming the truth for my children, I realized how many people were in the same need. Then I turned my thought from person and worked to know the universal nature of good. This gave me the assurance that all was well, and I later learned that though they were in the midst of destruction, the children were all protected.
