Testimonies of Healing

In "Science and Health with Key to the...

From the February 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 24) our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says, "He to whom 'the arm of the Lord' is revealed will believe our report, and rise into newness of life with regeneration." In her Message to The Mother Church for 1901 (p. 9) she says, "Christian Science shows clearly that God is the only generating or regenerating power." I wish to relate my experience, which testifies to the practicality of our revered Leader's teachings.

In 1932 I first got a glimpse of what Christian Science really is when I started to read Science and Health, and after finishing the chapter on Prayer I knew that here was the answer to much that perplexed me.

A short time later a condition of the gums, called pyorrhea, which a dentist said was incurable, became so bothersome that I felt I needed treatment. The decision had to be made between returning to a dentist and trying Christian Science. The latter was chosen, and I called on a practitioner. In two treatments the healing was complete.

As study was continued, the purifying power of Truth freed me from the smoking habit and from indulgence in alcoholic drinks.

In revealing man's relation to God, his true purpose of being, Mrs. Eddy uses such terms as expression, reflection, manifestation, representation, image, and likeness. To the degree that I have come to understand this relationship and have let God's will be done I have been guided into more useful activity, or employment, and experienced more abundant supply.

During the fifteen years since I first opened Science and Health, many changes have been experienced physically, morally, and spiritually; Christian Science has replaced reliance on material means; purity has replaced depravity; supply has replaced lack; confidence has replaced doubt; understanding has replaced ignorance; harmony has replaced discord. Membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, with its opportunities for serving God, and class instruction are added blessings.

I am humbly grateful to God, the Father and Mother of all, to Christ Jesus, the great demonstrator of our Father's will and the Way-shower, and to our beloved Leader, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, whose teachings enable us today to "rise into newness of life with regeneration."—
