Christ Jesus has promised (Matt. 11: 28-30): "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." This promise has constantly unfolded to me during my experience in Christian Science.
Twelve years ago I heard a lecture on Christian Science. It contained the first truthful statements that I had heard about this religion. Before that I had deplored what I thought it to be. I went to the lecture feeling as though I were weighed down with a great load. Though the burden was not lifted during the lecture, the message given seemed so logical and right that I went away wanting to know more. Twice after that I borrowed the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but I still failed to comprehend its clear message. I became more and more unhappy until I came to the point where I seriously contemplated suicide. About this time I got in contact with a Christian Science practitioner, who pointed out "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of the textbook and gave my husband and me a Christian Science Quarterly, showing us how to study the Lesson-Sermons contained in it.
The Lesson that week was "Love." How can I be grateful enough for this wonderful Lesson? It literally made me over. My husband had been studying that Lesson for only a couple of days when one evening he started to break out with hives, a condition which had afflicted him at intervals and which lasted for some time. That night when we retired I affirmed the truths in "the scientific statement of being" and pondered other truths I had learned in those few days of study. In the morning there was no trace of hives, and he has never had a return of that difficulty. At last I realized the great power contained in Christian Science, which I had sensed at the lecture heard over a year before.
