I should like to express my deep gratitude for the healing of my little daughter of cholera infantum, after the doctors had declared that she was lost. Thanks to the devoted help of a Christian Science practitioner who aided me greatly and my study of Science, my little girl was healed. I constantly held the thought that God is Love, and that He was taking care of the child.
For many other blessings received I thank God, our Father-Mother, our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and the practitioner who helped me.— Cachant, France.
When Mary Baker Eddy discovered the Science of Christianity and found that the truths contained in the Bible could be demonstrated in healing and living, she knew great joy. Having explained in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," a way of life whereby man could live in peace, she thought that the world would accept it gladly; but, as in my own case, mortal mind accepts change slowly, and then in many cases only when the human sense of life becomes almost unbearable.
I wish to express my gratitude to Christ Jesus and to Mrs. Eddy for an understanding of the truth, which has resulted in a better and happier way of life. I am grateful also for healings which have come to me through the study of the Bible and Science and Health.
My father was not able to overcome the habit of drinking, and this condition in our home left me with a confused state of thought. While I had been taught to value good qualities, such as the desire to work, honesty, and truthfulness, my ambitions were somewhat in the nature of dreams or illusions, and I also formed the habits of drinking and smoking. I did not feel that my life was being lived as it should be, and I thought there must be a solution to the problem. I read many books, including the Bible, but did not find the answer.
My wife had become interested in Christian Science before we were married, but because I was antagonistic to what I thought it was, she kept the books away from me for fear I would destroy them. It became necessary for me to sell a business I was in, on account of my mental confusion, the result of drinking, and a physical condition which affected my back and chest. After I had sold the business, I was anxious and in despair, and at this time my wife handed me Science and Health. Like a drowning man grasping a straw, I took it, and read the first chapter, on Prayer. I then exclaimed: "Why, this is what I have been searching for. This is what I believe!" From then on, I knew that I had found something which I would never let go of. I did not question any statement made by Mrs. Eddy, but believed in her revelation implicitly. However, the demonstration had to be made, and at times, while passing through the fire, I exclaimed, "Why should this happen to me?" But we read (Hebr. 12:6), "Whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth," and now I see that my thought had to be purged of all erroneous thinking. I was healed of the back and chest condition shortly after I began to read Science and Health, and the anxiety and despair left at the same time.
I have also been healed of constipation, stomach trouble, smoking, and drinking. To a great extent I have overcome anger, jealousy, resentment, hatred, and many other errors which flesh is heir to, and have replaced them with peace, happiness, health, prosperity, and love and compassion for all mankind. I am very grateful to be a member of The Mother Church and to be active in a branch church; I am also grateful for the practitioners from whom I have had much help.— Montevideo, Minnesota.
I wish to verify my husband's testimony and to add my gratitude to God for Christian Science. I have had many healings and blessings since taking up its study, and great peace and joy have come into my life, also a desire to serve and help further the Cause of Christian Science.
