Poems

Patience

From the April 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God loves immediacy! From His holy height
See the swift splendor voiced so long ago:
"God said, Let there be light: and there was light. . . .
Let the dry land appear: and it was so."

But God loves patience, too, and earth goes far
In stressing it; its graciousness she shows
By taking gradual dusk to shape a star
And using all of April for a rose!
