Testimonies of Healing

I wish to give this testimony in the hope...

From the April 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to give this testimony in the hope that it will help others as their testimonies have helped me, and also to "praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" (Ps.107:8.)

Christian Science healed me instantaneously when my son was two years old. From the time of his birth I had been ill and weak with pain, until I could not stand. As the doctor's treatment failed to heal me, my father asked me to read the testimonies in The Christian Science Journal; but when I noticed that some of the healings related were slow, I put the Journal aside with the thought that the testifiers would have got well anyway. However, I grew weaker, and a few months later, remembering the testimonies, I borrowed Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy from the Reading Room. I had read only two lines when my eyes pained me, and I could not see. I realized that I had not been able to read for more than five minutes at a time for over four or five years. I thought, If I cannot read the book, what can I do? But the sentences were powerful, and I said, "If this book is about the true God, then God is its source, and if God wishes me to read this book, then nothing can stop me." I picked up the book again, and as I read, I saw that Life is Spirit, that man is spiritual, that there is no life in the body. I also saw that the book was not just what Mrs. Eddy thought about God, but that it was the actual revelation from God Himself. I read for an hour or more. My eyes were entirely healed, all pain from the birth was gone, and all my strength had returned. I was so joyous I got up, cleaned the entire house, washed, ironed, and also cooked dinner.

A year later my son was healed of diphtheria. When he was seven he was run over by a truck. Both legs were broken. One break was diagonal, and it healed quickly with the practitioner's faithful work. The other leg was broken straight across and so close to the hip that, in the doctor's words, there was not enough bone for it to anchor to. He said the muscle kept pulling the leg out of line and no cast he could build would hold it in place, adding that he would have to cut the muscle, put the leg in another cast, and let the muscle heal. The doctor remarked about the fact that the boy had no pain. The practitioner continued working. The morning of the scheduled operation the doctor looked at the leg and said: "A boy of seven can do wonders. It is not necessary to operate." The leg was in place and healed so perfectly that when the X ray was taken there was not even a faint line to indicate a break.
