In 1930 I became interested in Christian Science. At that time I was very unhappy, for we had been told that our son, who was in a sanatorium with tuberculosis, was very ill. He had lost his job because he had been ill for so long. A neighbor who is a Christian Scientist one day asked me to go to a testimony meeting with her. I went and was much impressed. She also introduced me to some people who had been healed of tuberculosis and other conditions.
On my next visit to our son I told him about the meeting, and he started to read the textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The next time I visited him, he said he thought the nurses did not like his having the books. "Well," I said, "never mind; keep reading." Nevertheless I was troubled. As I took my seat in the car, a voice spoke plainly: "O thou of little faith" (Matt. 14:31). I looked up startled, but realized it was the "still small voice." I at once felt very much uplifted. When I told my neighbor, she said: "Why not have him come home? You are going for a seaside holiday; take him with you."
I wrote to the doctor and asked him if we might have our son home, and I told him where we were going and what we were planning to do. In his reply he said, "By all means do as you say; he can come back if Christian Science fails." We brought our son home, and after coming back from our holiday we asked a practitioner to help him. We could see great improvement. The complete healing came, and he was in such good health that when the war started, he joined and did his bit. One winter while in the Army he had influenza. He was examined by doctors, who, when told about the experience with tuberculosis, were greatly surprised at the healing.
