NEW ASSOCIATE EDITOR

The Christian Science Board of Directors on May 19 announced the election of Mrs. Helen Wood Bauman, C. S. B., of St. Joseph, Missouri, as an Associate Editor of The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, and The Herald of Christian Science in its several editions, to succeed Miss L. Ivimy Gwalter, who was elected to membership on The Christian Science Board of Directors on May 11. Mrs. Bauman received her academic education in the schools of St. Joseph. She subsequently pursued the study of music for many years in the United States and abroad.

Mrs. Bauman became interested in Christian Science in 1918 and united in membership with The Mother Church and with First Church of Christ, Scientist, St. Joseph, in 1920. She has served as organist in that branch church and also in Second Church, Kansas City, Missouri. Mrs. Bauman has also served in many other capacities in the branch church of which she is a member, including that of Second Reader, member of the board of directors, and teacher in the Sunday School.

Mrs. Bauman became active in the practice of Christian Science in 1932 and was listed in the Journal as a practitioner in August of that year. In 1946 she received instruction in the Normal class of the Board of Education, thereupon becoming an authorized teacher of Christian Science. Mrs. Bauman will change her field of labor as a teacher of Christian Science to Boston and hereafter teach her classes and conduct the meetings of the Association of her pupils in this city.

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Christian Science Board of Directors announces that Mr. Paul Stark Seeley, who for the past more than five years has been serving with devotion and success as an Associate Editor of The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, and The Herald of Christian Science in its several editions, has retired from this position to accept election by this Board to The Christian Science Board of Lectureship for the coming year. Except for occasional periods when he retired from active service to devote himself exclusively to the study and practice of Christian Science, he previously served as a member of the Board of Lectureship for a period covering more than twenty-six years.

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Ellis Key, C. S. B., of London, England, has been elected to the office of an Associate Editor of the periodicals to succeed Mr. Seeley.

NEW ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Ellis Key, C. S. B., of London, England, was educated in Richmond School and St. Peter's School, Yorkshire, England. He has had a distinguished career as an officer in the British Army.

Colonel Key became interested in Christian Science in 1906, receiving Primary class instruction soon thereafter, and joined The Mother Church in 1908. He left the Army in 1913 to devote his entire time to the practice of Christian Science healing, but resumed his military service in August, 1914, for the First World War. During his service he was mentioned in dispatches, awarded the Order of the British Empire, and granted the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Colonel Key retired from the Army in 1920, and since 1923 has given all his time to Christian Science work. He has served as Reader in a branch church and as Committee on Publication for the County of Oxfordshire, England, and has been a frequent contributor to the Christian Science periodicals since 1908. He is a member of Eleventh Church of Christ, Scientist, London, in which he has served on the board of directors and held other offices. In 1936 Colonel Key was appointed District Manager of Committees on Publication for Great Britain and Ireland, and he continued in this position until his voluntary retirement in December, 1944.

In 1937 Colonel Key was a member of the Normal class in the Board of Education of The Mother Church, and since that time he has been an authorized teacher of Christian Science. He served in many capacities in connection with Christian Science Wartime Activities in Europe during the Second World War. In June, 1945, Colonel Key was elected to membership on The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, since which time he has lectured in Africa, Continental Europe, Great Britain and Ireland, and the United States.

Colonel Key will continue to hold his classes and conduct the meetings of the Association of his pupils in London, England.

MEMBERSHIP IN THE MOTHER CHURCH — AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH IN GRACE

To all earnest students of Christian Science, our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," offers this loving admonition (p. 4):"What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds." Membership in The Mother Church and in its branch churches and societies affords unlimited opportunities for this "growth in grace."

Sincere students of Christian Science who are in accord with the platform and teaching contained in the textbook, and who accept our Leader's definition of "Church" (see Science and Health, pages 330-340 and 583), are welcome to apply for membership as the next step in their spiritual progress.

Application blanks and the questionnaire folder may be obtained at Christian Science Reading Rooms, from clerks of branch churches and societies, from Christian Science practitioners listed in The Christian Science Journal, or from Gordon V. Comer, Clerk, 107 Falmouth Street, Boston 15, Massachusetts.

NOTICE TO CORRESPONDENTS

Officers of branch churches and individuals who have occasion to correspond with The Christian Science Board of Directors, with the Clerk and the Treasurer of The Mother Church, and with the heads of departments of The Mother Church Offices are requested always to place their addresses on their letters and to write their signatures plainly. Women are requested to use the title "Miss" or "Mrs." as the fact may be, and to use their Christian names. The time spent in the offices in. searching out this information can be better spent in replying to the letters or in keeping necessary records. The co-operation of correspondents is solicited.

INSTRUCTIONS WITH REMITTANCE

Quite frequently checks and money orders are received by the Publishing Society with nothing to indicate whether the remittance is to be applied to subscriptions, advertising, or Journal cards, to mention a few of our accounts. This means that sometimes days are spent trying to determine where the money should be applied, and in the end, perhaps, the sender must be asked for further information. If instructions always accompany remittances, orders can be handled more promptly and correctly.

TESTIMONIES

Testimonies should be verified by three members of The Mother Church who know of the healing or can vouch for the integrity of the testifier. If the testifier is not acquainted with three members, his affidavit may be sufficient, but in this case he should, if possible, obtain verification from one or two members. The testifier himself should obtain the verifications and submit them with the testimony. Complete addresses of the testifier and his vouchers should always be furnished.

TESTIMONY MEETINGS

Meetings at which testimonies of Christian Science healing are given, are held in Christian Science churches on Wednesdays. A cordial invitation to attend these meetings, as well as the Sunday services, is extended to all. Information telling where and when these are held is given in the Directory in each issue of The Christian Science Journal.
