It is with a deep and sincere sense of gratitude to God that I write this testimony. About thirty years ago Christian Science was presented to me, and I began attending church services. My first healing was the result of my putting to a test what I heard at these services. For years I had been taking a laxative every night. I decided to stop taking it and see just what would happen and if there was anything to what Christian Science taught and claimed. Having put it in the hands of God, I completely forgot about the entire situation for three days. On the fourth day I realized I was completely and permanently healed. I did not know at that time how I was healed, but later realized that I had unknowingly complied with that part of the Lord's Prayer which states (Matt. 6:10), "Thy will be done."
I have had many healings through the study and application of Christian Science, including those of dengue fever, Spanish influenza, and double pneumonia. For years I was never without a cold, for which I had taken many kinds of drugs. This condition, spells of melancholy lasting for days, a sense of inferiority, and the tobacco habit of many years' standing were all healed. I have experienced God's loving protection in accidents. In some cases healing was accomplished through the help of consecrated practitioners.
My profession was that of licensed pharmacist, and this fact presented a problem. On two occasions I resigned my position and attempted to do something else, but I lacked sufficient faith, so I slipped back into the work. Finally, I purchased a drugstore and went into business for myself, and though this proved to be a financial success, it did not give me the freedom desired. Through systematic, earnest, and consecrated work which was done at that time, I began to realize more clearly my relationship to God. Holding ever in thought the true concept of business, I was soon led to discontinue the drug and prescription department and change to a variety store. After the change was made, I checked my payroll and receipts from the discontinued department and found to my surprise that I had been losing money by that operation in my business. This move gave me more freedom and enabled me to devote less time to the store and more time to the study and application of the truths taught in Christian Science.
Very shortly I was able to sell this business advantageously, but during the transaction the question was raised by one of the attorneys as to whether or not I had violated my lease by converting from a drug to a variety store. The lease was the most valuable thing in the sale of the business. Upon examination by both lawyers, it was found that the word "drug" did not appear anywhere in the lease, which, however, contained a clause that gave me the right to sell and transfer the lease to anyone I might choose. This proved conclusively that Mind had indeed prepared the way out of the drug business five years before I was aware of it, and all I had to do was follow the leadings of Truth. This now makes it possible for me to devote my entire time to the Cause of Christian Science.
I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, as well as all the activities of our great movement, the periodicals, class instruction, and our yearly association meetings. I am profoundly grateful for our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.— Jacksonville, Florida.
