I am writing this testimony in gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me, hoping it may help someone in need.
My parents became interested in this Science when I was about two years of age, through the healing of a very close friend. Shortly after this I was healed of a severe case of whooping cough. Because we lived a long distance from where Christian Science services were held, we seldom attended; but the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly were read on Sundays, and the whole family was requested to listen.
Many were the instances of healing and protection. An outstanding case of divine protection was witnessed when I was a small girl. My little brother and I were playing in the yard when our father was chasing a young horse. My brother was in line to be trampled, and it seemed that he certainly would be, but the horse dropped on his knees by the child. Our father said that when he saw what was taking place, he declared that the same Mind which governed the child governed the horse also. Since I witnessed this, it has always been clear to me that we are protected when we trust in God. At another time I was protected when my older brother and I were riding the horses home from the field after Father had finished his day's work. The horses started before Father had the gate closed, and when we tried to stop them they began to trot, then to run. Although the horse I was riding had a fly net on, I managed to hold to the hames, get on one side of him, and slip to the ground unhurt as he ran. My brother was thrown into a ditch and was unconscious when Father picked him up and carried him home, about half a mile. By morning my brother was feeling as well as usual, and we all drove many miles to attend a fair.
Christian Science has meant much to me in rearing my own family of nine children. They are all grown and married now, and as I look back I can remember many instances of help received. While our youngest son was in service for over three years, part of the time overseas, it was a great comfort to me to know that he was God's child and under His protecting care.
Among the many blessings I have had are healings of typhoid, pneumonia, nervous breakdown, quinsy, constipation, measles, fallen arches, piles, boils, and liver trouble which had caused me to become so despondent that I did not wish to live any longer. I was healed of this trouble in two weeks through the help of a practitioner.
A few years ago our two daughters and I had the privilege of attending church for over two years. During this period I became a member of The Mother Church and of the branch church which we attended. Both daughters are married now and continue their interest in the truth. I am looking forward with joy to the time when the way will again open up for me to attend services.
I am grateful to God, to Mrs. Eddy, and to the practitioners, who are ever ready to help when called upon.— Elsie, Michigan.
