"NEITHER YOUNG NOR OLD"

From the September 1950 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Man in Science is neither young nor old," writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 244 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." What a release from the bondage of timetables and calendars does the acceptance of this statement afford!

In accordance with the first chapter of Genesis, Christian Science teaches that man is made in the image and likeness of God, that he is the expression of God's being. The true man, therefore, must possess all the qualities and characteristics of God, infinite good. As we recognize and express this Godlike nature of our true selfhood, we are progressively freed from material limitations of every sort, including the defrauding belief of age.

The spiritual fact of being, embracing the individuality of man, exists forever and is quite apart from the false belief of time; Man exists in eternity. Ceaseless Life, unchanging Love, deathless Spirit, and their manifestations are here and now. The timeless and effortless unfolding of God's law is at hand and is always good. Why, then, this haunting fear of age and regret for passing youth? We affirm that God is omnipotent, omniscient, ever present. How, then, could there be any opposition to the absoluteness of His eternal control over His own perfect ideas?
