Testimonies of Healing

"Tumors, ulcers, tubercles, inflammation...

From the December 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Tumors, ulcers, tubercles, inflammation, pain, deformed joints, are waking dream-shadows, dark images of mortal thought, which flee before the light of Truth," states our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, on page 418 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." With deep gratitude for the privilege of having proved to some degree the above statement in my own experience, I present the following facts in the hope that they may be helpful to others.

For about two years I suffered from intermittent hemorrhages and a very painful condition from which medical doctors could offer no relief. It was finally recommended that I submit to a series of examinations by various specialists. After some weeks I was told that I was suffering from a tubercular kidney and accompanying ulcers of the bladder. It was added that an operation to remove the affected kidney must be performed within three days, as delay could result in a fatal spread of the condition to other parts of the body.

Although I knew nothing of Christian Science and had frequently expressed opposition to what I thought it was, I suddenly felt an irresistible urge to try it rather than face the operation. At the suggestion of a friend a Christian Science practitioner was called, and a copy of Science and Health was secured for me. This book so illuminated the Scriptures that I knew I had found the truth, and I scarcely laid it down until I had read it from cover to cover. Within a few days I was able to resume my duties as a department store executive. While very minor symptoms seemed to remain for a time, these soon completely vanished, and there has been no return of the condition during the more than thirty years which have intervened. During this entire period Christian Science has met my every need. It has never been necessary for me to miss a single day from my regular activities, and I have continued to participate regularly in what is considered a rather strenuous sport. Surely "man's extremity is God's opportunity."
