One of the first healings I witnessed in Christian Science impressed me very much and has always remained with me. It happened when our baby was very ill.
A member of my family called a doctor before I could get in touch with a practitioner. He examined the child and pronounced the condition pneumonia. No medicine was given her by the doctor, but he said he would return in a little while. When the doctor left, I made the child comfortable, and then went off by myself to pray. As the practitioner was out of town when I called, I was expecting a return call, and nothing further was done to obtain help.
The situation was apparently critical, and fear gripped me tightly. The child pleaded for the arms of her mother, and I reasoned that even as a human mother would not inflict pain on her child, so God, our real Father-Mother, would not and does not inflict pain, and that the very nature of Love excludes any quality unlike love. I saw that divine Love has all power to maintain its creation. This is fact, I reasoned, no matter what the human picture seems. Soon I was conscious of a sense of peace and a conviction of Love's presence.
